Art beCAUSE 5th Annual Wine Dinner
Candy O'Terry - Guest MC
Magic 106.7’s Candy O’Terry started out as a singer and landed in radio. Born in New York City and raised in Connecticut, Candy came to Boston to dive for Boston College and became a silver medalist in the Massachusetts Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships. She was a two-time finalist on Star Search, fronted a band throughout the 80’s and was a successful jingle singer. In 1990, Candy was hired as a fill-in secretary in the programming department at Magic 106.7 and the rest, as they say, is history. This single mother of two got her first shot on the air when a disc jockey fell asleep and got fired. She worked the overnight shift for a year while her children Christopher and Colleen slept in the newsroom. She would go on to become one of Boston’s most popular radio personalities and ratings success stories. In May 2001, Candy was promoted to Assistant Program Director at Magic 106.7, making her one of a handful of women in this position in the country. In 2005, she recorded and released “The Gift” with Grammy nominee Jim Brickman and David Corey, and, in 2006, Candy performed “Over the Rainbow” at Symphony Hall with Keith Lockhart & the Boston Pops. She has also performed at Boston’s Shubert Theatre and the TD Banknorth Garden. She is the voice of “Connected” aboard American Airlines flights worldwide.
Candy O’Terry is the creator and co-host of Magic 106.7’s radio program “Exceptional Women.” The winner of 23 local and national awards for excellence in women’s programming, “Exceptional Women” has set a record by earning nine Gracie Allen Awards from the American Women in Radio & Television. She has been honored by the Gilda Radner Foundation for her work on behalf of women’s cancers and is the spokesperson for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk. She is the recipient of the “Media Hero Award” from the American Red Cross. Candy is serving her second term as President of the American Women in Radio & Television/New England Chapter.
